57% tried it this time, but don’t plan to next time.

Research conducted in partnership with Nationwide Marketing Group showed that 57% of consumers who tried mattresses during their last purchase are unlikely to test-rest the next time they buy.Many shoppers who purchased online over the past 6 to 10 years will be coming back into the market for a new mattress soon. Some retailers have assumed these consumers would be unhappy with their previous purchase and choose to try the mattress first. Clearly, that is not the case.

But there is a way to change this: Educate the customer and give them an experience. There are so many things you can do to turn a simple bed test into something more.

How about 15 minutes of total tranquility? Give the customer headphones with relaxing music and let them test the bed, but promote it as a way to relax and get a break from everything going on in the world. Go out of your way to make the experience memorable but also useful and helpful to the customer.
