Mattress Mack’s High-Water Rescue Truck

“Mattress Mack Has Got Your Back.” Those are the words painted across the side of the new high-water rescue truck that Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale rolled out.

The famed philanthropist and owner of Gallery Furniture bought the truck to help Houston residents in the event of flooding and severe weather.

The behemoth can drive safely through 55 inches of water and is decked out with air conditioning, heat, and a hydraulic liftgate.

This isn’t Mack’s first go-round with philanthropy in his local area. He’s provided shelter for Houstonians in his store during several past natural disasters, including Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and the severe winter weather earlier this year.

Now the truck is ready for the Atlantic hurricane season—which began on June 1— and NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center expects another active stretch, with forecasters predicting a 60% chance of an above-normal hurricane season.

Great timing, Mack!
